University of Utah and HEC Collaborate

Higher Education Commission HEC of Pakistan has entered a strategic partnership with the University of Utah, aiming to improve the capabilities of Pakistan’s public universities. Backed by the United States Agency for International Development USAID under the Higher Education System Strengthening Activity HESSA, the collaboration will focus on faculty training, strategic development, policy reform, and governance improvements, according to an HEC press release. Official Signing Ceremony Marks New Chapter

The signing of the agreement took place in a formal ceremony attended by HEC Chairman Dr. Mukhtar Ahmed, USAID Deputy Mission Director Andrew McKim, and other senior officials from HEC, the University of Utah, and USAID. Representing their institutions, HEC Adviser for Global Engagement Awais Ahmed and Dr. Michael Barber, a Professor of Civil Engineering from the University of Utah, formalized the partnership.


Expanding HESSA’s Reach to Pakistani Universities

This partnership expands the HESSA initiative’s impact to an additional 16 universities in Pakistan, building on the support already provided to the first 16 institutions under the project. Through this initiative, HEC and the University of Utah seek to elevate the academic standards in Pakistan by enhancing the operational and educational frameworks within these universities.


Stakeholders Highlight the Significance of the Collaboration

HEC Chairman Dr. Mukhtar Ahmed underscored the importance of this alliance, remarking that the collaboration with the University of Utah will empower educators and university leaders to drive significant improvements in Pakistan’s education system. He acknowledged USAID’s essential role in this effort, referring to Pakistan’s youth as a critical asset worth investing in. Andrew McKim of USAID expressed the agency’s commitment to supporting the initiative, describing education as a cornerstone of sustainable development. Dr. Michael Barber voiced the University of Utah’s enthusiasm, stating the institution’s honor in contributing to Pakistan’s academic progress.


HEC’s Commitment to Educational Excellence and Reform

HEC Adviser Awais Ahmed detailed the primary goals of the partnership, including strategic planning, faculty development, and support for policy reforms. The initiative reflects HEC’s vision of strengthening Pakistan’s higher education infrastructure, allowing universities to better respond to global challenges. This partnership with the University of Utah represents HEC’s commitment to fostering long-lasting international academic connections that will enrich both students and faculty in Pakistan.
