Karachi, Every year, thousands of Pakistani students invest significant amounts of money to secure admission in controversial universities in Kyrgyzstan. These students, seeking higher education abroad, look for updates on why they opt for Kyrgyzstan universities despite the costs. The students can get the latest updates regarding their Why Pak Students Choose Kyrgyzstan Universities for Higher Education Despite High Costs.

High Admission Standards in Pakistan

Pakistani students and educational experts highlight that the merit for government colleges in Pakistan is extremely high. Many students struggle to secure spots in local medical colleges and universities. Consequently, a large number of students seek admission in foreign medical institutions that offer comparatively lower tuition fees. Statistics show that around 10,000 to 12,000 Pakistani students are currently studying in Kyrgyzstan.

Investment in Kyrgyzstan Medical Colleges

An ex-executive director of the Higher Education Commission HEC and former vice-chancellor of LUMS University noted that many Pakistanis have either established or invested in medical colleges in Kyrgyzstan. The motive behind this investment is often unclear, but it is believed to be due to the lucrative nature of receiving tuition fees in dollars, making it a profitable business venture. These investments have led to the establishment of several medical institutes in Kyrgyzstan.

Role of HEC and PMDC in Overseas Admissions

The HEC and Pakistan Medical and Dental Council PMDC are responsible for permitting students to pursue education in foreign universities. Although the standard of medical education in countries like Kyrgyzstan is considered low, many Pakistani students opt for these institutions due to the high costs of medical education in Pakistan. These students find the lower tuition fees in Kyrgyzstan more affordable.

National Registration Examination NRE Requirement

Experts emphasize that Pakistani students who complete their medical education abroad must pass the National Registration Examination NRE administered by the PMDC to practice medicine in Pakistan. Students are required to score at least 50 marks in this test. Additionally, if a student returns to Pakistan without completing their medical education abroad and wishes to continue in Pakistan, they must pass the National Equivalence Board exams.

HEC Updates on Recognized Foreign Medical Institutes

A representative from HEC stated that the commission regularly updates its website to list recognized medical and dental colleges and universities abroad. Students are advised to apply only to those institutes listed on the HEC website to ensure their education is recognized and accredited by the relevant authorities in Pakistan. This helps students complete their education in legitimate and accredited medical institutions.
