Education Authorities Reschedule GPA-Based Evaluation Framework
An official notice confirming the delay has been released. Previously, the Inter Board Committee of Chairmen IBCC had introduced this modernized grading format, which was supported by a Sindh government notification dated October 15, 2024, announcing its application to the 2025 academic year. However, a new update from the Sindh Universities and Boards Department, referencing both the earlier notifications from October 2024 and June 18, 2025, has now confirmed the policy will take effect in 2026 instead.
Breakdown of the New Grading Criteria
The revised evaluation system aims to shift from traditional percentage-based results to a grade point and GPA model, offering a broader performance scale:
A++ Exceptional: 95%–100% – GPA 5.0
A+ Outstanding: 90%–94%
A Excellent: 85%–89%
B++ Very Good: 80%–84%
B+ Good: 75%–79%
B Fairly Good: 70%–74%
C Above Average: 60%–69%
D Average: 50%–59%
E Below Average: 40%–49%
Students receiving marks below 40% will not be categorized as fail but will instead be marked as Unsatisfactory, in line with efforts to adopt a less punitive grading language.
The policy will be initially rolled out for Grade 9 and Grade 11 students, where results will be issued in Grade Points GP, and later extended to incorporate Grade Point Averages GPA.
This transition is part of a broader strategy to align Pakistan’s education system with global standards, moving towards a more descriptive and constructive method of academic evaluation.
