Punjab Revives Grade 8 Board Exams

The Punjab government has announced the return of board examinations for class 8 students across the province. This major development was disclosed by Education Minister Rana Sikandar Hayat during a session of the Board of Governors of PECTA Punjab Education Curriculum Training and Assessment Authority, as reported by a private news source. Education Minister Unveils Assessment Overhaul and Digital Learning Plans
According to the minister, Grade 8 assessments will now be conducted by PECTA, and a detailed implementation plan must be completed within 30 days. In addition, he has instructed the launch of internal evaluation systems for students in classes 5 to 7, which will also include mechanisms to assess teacher performance.
The assessment procedures are to be finalized within one month, ensuring clear guidelines and transparency.
To support technology-driven education, the minister also revealed that the government is exploring ways to convert textbooks for Grades 9 and 11 technical stream into video content. The Academic Committee for Online Technical Education will supervise the quality and production of these educational materials.
He further directed education authorities to ensure the timely printing and delivery of textbooks for the new academic year, making it clear that any delays will not be tolerated.
In his closing remarks, Rana Sikandar Hayat emphasized the need to reduce student out rates in middle school and highlighted the importance of strengthening teacher development programs, using previous performance records as a basis for improvement.
