The Punjab government has rolled out new safety regulations as schools prepare to reopen tomorrow, with an emphasis on student and staff protection in response to rising air pollution levels. While schools outside Lahore and Multan will resume operations tomorrow, the school day will not commence before 8:45 AM to avoid the worst of the pollution. The students, teachers and parents should note that Punjab Sets New Guidelines for School Reopening Amid Pollution Concerns.

Face Masks Mandated for All School Attendees

As part of the new safety protocols, it is now compulsory for students, teachers, and school staff to wear face masks while on school grounds. The responsibility for ensuring compliance with this mandate will fall on the school administrations. Additionally, outdoor sports and physical activities will remain paused until further notice to limit exposure to harmful air quality.

Adjustments to Break Schedules to Prevent Crowding

To ensure better safety and limit congestion in schools, the government has introduced staggered break times across different grade levels. This measure aims to prevent large groups from gathering in shared spaces, contributing to improved social distancing practices within the school environment.

Minister Discusses Reopening Measures and Smog Improvements

Senior Minister Marriyum Aurangzeb addressed the situation, emphasizing that stringent decisions were required to protect public health. She noted that the air quality had improved thanks to favorable wind conditions, which helped reduce smog levels across the province. Acting on the instructions of Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif, schools outside Lahore and Multan will open their doors tomorrow.

Focus on Education and Health Safety

The Minister reiterated the importance of continuing education while ensuring the well-being of students. She urged school authorities to strictly follow the newly introduced safety measures. Aurangzeb also expressed gratitude to the public for their patience and support, and commended the work of the Environmental Protection Agency EPA, local police, and administrative agencies for their efforts in managing the ongoing air quality concerns.
