Punjab New Admission Policy for Medical and Dental Colleges

The Punjab government has introduced a revised admission policy for medical and dental colleges across the province. This new policy was approved by the provincial cabinet and was formally announced through a notification from the Specialized Healthcare Department, released on Friday. The students can get fresh information that Punjab Unveils New Admission Policy for Medical and Dental Colleges.
Changes for Islamabad-Based Students
One of the most significant updates in the policy concerns students from Islamabad. The new policy limits Islamabad students to only three reserved seats in Punjab’s medical colleges, removing their previous access to open merit MBBS admissions. This development has left many federal capital students disappointed, as it reduces their chances of securing seats based solely on merit.
Narowal Medical College Increases Student Capacity
In a positive move, Narowal Medical College has been granted permission to enroll 100 students for the current academic year. This expansion aims to accommodate more students and boost medical education in the province, further addressing the growing demand for medical professionals.
Admission Timelines and Important Dates
The government has provided specific application windows for prospective students, ensuring a smooth admission process:
Government Medical Colleges: Applications open from October 21 to November 4, 2024.
Private Medical Colleges: Applicants can submit their forms between November 5 and November 19, 2024.
Government Dental Colleges: The application period runs from November 20 to December 4, 2024.
Private Dental Colleges: Applications will be accepted from December 5 to December 19, 2024.
Start Dates for Academic Sessions
According to the updated schedule, classes for MBBS programs will commence on February 1, 2025, while Bachelor of Dental Surgery BDS programs will start on March 1, 2025. This clear timeline allows students to plan ahead for their studies.
Admissions Supervision by UHS
The University of Health Sciences UHS has been tasked with managing the admission process for all medical and dental institutions in Punjab. Their oversight ensures a fair and transparent system for applicants across the province.
With these changes, the new admission policy aims to refine the process while increasing opportunities for students, particularly with the inclusion of Narowal Medical College. Although some students face reduced opportunities under the updated system, the policy strives to maintain a balanced approach to medical education.
