Punjab Maintains Normal School Schedule

The Punjab government has reached a definitive verdict on whether to introduce an additional weekly holiday for schools in Lahore. Caretaker Chief Minister Punjab, Mohsin Naqvi, has confirmed that Wednesdays will continue to be regular workdays for schools. Previously, the provincial authorities had deliberated on the possibility of an extra weekly holiday in response to heightened smog levels in Lahore. However, with the Air Quality Index AQI showing signs of improvement, the government has opted against the decision.

In an announcement made on a social media platform, CM Mohsin Naqvi revealed that he conducted a crucial meeting with his cabinet members to arrive at this conclusion. He stated, "Considering the improved Air Quality Index, Wednesdays will remain business as usual."

Furthermore, Naqvi emphasized that various governmental departments, including the Secretary of Transport, district administration, and the Police, are actively addressing sources of air pollution. "We are maintaining vigilance and taking proactive measures to keep the Air Quality Index in check," he affirmed.

In addition to the above, factories have received stern warnings against exceeding prescribed emission limits and tire burning. Moreover, Commissioners and Deputy Commissioners have been instructed to take action against those responsible for crop residue burning.

To ensure the availability of high-quality, low-emission fuels to the public, Mohsin Naqvi has issued stringent measures to combat the sale of substandard fuel. Furthermore, the construction industry has been provided with guidelines to reduce smog levels, requiring them to cover sand and gravel and continuously dampen construction sites.
