Appeal for Reconsideration by PEN
In an official statement, PEN has appealed to the relevant authorities to reconsider the decision. The president of the network, Muhammad Saleem Khan, expressed strong disapproval, asserting that decisions made by education department officials often neglect practical considerations.
Concerns Raised About Impact on Students Academic Progress
Khan voiced concerns about the potential threat to students academic progress posed by such decisions. He emphasized that students require a minimum of 240 days in an academic year to cover the entire syllabus. However, the extended winter break leaves matriculation and intermediate students with only 126 and 91 days, respectively, to complete their syllabus.
Challenges Faced Due to Exam Schedule and Holiday Extension
Muhammad Saleem Khan highlighted the challenges faced by students and parents due to the early scheduling of matriculation exams. Additionally, he questioned the logic behind extending winter vacations, attributing it to teachers involvement in elections. Khan argued that applying holidays to the private sector, where teachers are not participating in elections, lacks practicality.
Suggestion to Adapt School Timing to Weather Conditions
In response to the harsh weather conditions, Khan proposed starting schools at 9 am to mitigate the challenges faced during the winter season. This suggestion aims to address the concerns raised by the private education sector in KP.
