Passing Marks for Exams Raised by Education Boards

The Inter Boards Coordination Commission IBCC has introduced significant updates to examination standards across Pakistan, aiming to bring uniformity and promote excellence in education.
Passing Marks Increased to 40%
In a landmark decision during a meeting held in Karachi, the IBCC raised the passing percentage for all subjects from 33% to 40%. This adjustment raises the bar for student performance and aims to foster better learning outcomes.
Grace Marks Policy Revamped
The number of grace marks has also been increased, moving from three to five. However, students must now secure a minimum of 35 marks to benefit from this provision, compared to the previous threshold of 30 marks.
Grace Marks for Limited Subjects Only
To ensure the system remains equitable, the IBCC ruled that grace marks would not apply to students failing more than two subjects. This change prioritizes merit and fair assessment practices.
When Will These Changes Begin?
The new regulations will be enforced starting with the 2025 academic exams, giving all stakeholders sufficient time to transition to the updated system.
These reforms underscore the IBCC’s goal to enhance educational standards, ensuring Pakistani students are better equipped to compete globally.
