Innovative Formats for Assessment
In a joint meeting led by VC Prof Ahsan Waheed Rathore, the decision was made to revamp the examination structure, opting for the Objective Structured Practical Examination OSPE, Objective Structured Clinical Examination OSCE, and the novel Objective Structured Viva Examination OSVE.
Rationale and Methodology of OSVE
OSVE stands out as a reliable method to evaluate students, emphasizing their conceptual understanding and professional expression. This assessment format is structured around a series of ‘stations,’ each focusing on specific learning objectives.
International Effectiveness and First-Time Implementation in Pakistan
While OSPE and OSCE have been established assessment methods, OSVE, to be introduced for the first time in Pakistan, has demonstrated effectiveness in evaluation processes worldwide.
Implementation Details Under New Modular Curriculum
Commencing this year, first professional MBBS candidates will undergo assessments through 12 observed stations in the practical exam for each subject, aligning with the universitys new modular curriculum.
Composition of Exam Stations
The 12 stations comprise seven for OSPE, three for OSCE, and two for OSVE. Notably, external examiners will supervise each station, with regular teachers of the students serving as internal examiners being excluded from this role.
