LUMS Expands Scholarship for Local and International Student

Lahore University of Management Sciences LUMS offers a broad selection of scholarships and financial aid options for both Pakistani and international students aiming to pursue higher education. These scholarships are backed by LUMS itself and through partnerships with several national and international organizations, such as the Shahid Hussain Foundation SHF, Asian Development Bank ADB, and the Punjab Higher Education Commission PHEC. Students can get the latest information on LUMS expanding its scholarship programs for local and international applicants.

LUMS provides various financial support initiatives. These include academic merit scholarships, need-based financial assistance, and several specific scholarship programs sponsored by external partners.

Merit-based scholarships are granted to students with exceptional academic records at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels. For new undergraduate students, top applicants during the admission cycle may receive full tuition fee waivers for the first academic year. Each year, 100 such scholarships are distributed across the university’s schools. Students already enrolled may also receive ongoing merit awards based on their academic performance, particularly those who make it to the Dean’s Honour List. These awards are reviewed annually, and reapplication is required each academic year.

For students with limited financial means, the LUMS Financial Support Program offers need-based financial assistance. This support is available to both domestic and international students. The evaluation is based on demonstrated financial need alongside academic performance. Assistance may include interest-free loans, which are repayable within five years of graduation, with a grace period of six months.

To apply for financial aid, students must submit an online financial aid form along with supporting documents. The Financial Aid Office may request additional documentation and will evaluate each case before making and communicating a decision. For Fall 2025 admissions, applications opened on February 10, 2025, with a one-month submission window.

Applicants are required to provide detailed documentation. For income verification, this includes recent salary slips or pension documents, business income proof, third-party affidavits, tax returns, and complete 12-month bank statements. For assets and property, documents such as property or rental income proof, insurance papers, vehicle registration, and records of sold or disputed assets are needed. Liabilities and expenses must be documented through tuition bills, medical and utility expenses, loan agreements, and credit card statements. Additional records required include identity documents like CNIC or B-form, domicile, full passport pages, home photographs, and, if applicable, legal documents such as FRCs, visa sponsorships, or certificates related to family circumstances like death or separation. It is important to note that any misrepresentation or withholding of information can lead to the termination of aid or university enrollment.

The National Outreach Program NOP supports academically strong students from underprivileged areas across Pakistan. Applicants must have scored at least 80% in their Matriculation or equivalent and demonstrate clear financial need.

The Shahid Hussain Foundation SHF Scholarship is designated for international students from SAARC countries, excluding Pakistan. Eligible students must be citizens of member countries such as India, Nepal, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Bhutan, Maldives, and Afghanistan. Applicants with Pakistani citizenship or dual nationality involving Pakistan are not eligible.

Through its collaboration with the Asian Development Bank, LUMS offers the ADB–Japan Scholarship Program ADB–JSP for both Pakistani and international students. The scholarship covers full academic tuition, living expenses, a monthly stipend, book and learning material allowance, travel and medical insurance, and special grants for thesis or preparatory courses. The fields covered include science and technology like engineering, computer science, and health sciences, economics and business finance, management, e-business, law and policy public policy and international law, and development studies Asia-Pacific studies and development management.

The Sekha Scholarship is awarded to the top 10 position holders in the FSc Board Exams from any of the 23 recognized Pakistani education boards. This scholarship covers 100% of tuition fees for undergraduate students at the Syed Babar Ali School of Science and Engineering SBASSE.

In addition to LUMS-administered programs, students can also apply for scholarships funded by the government, including the PHEC Honhaar Scholarship and the Punjab Education Endowment Fund PEEF.
