Islamabad Schools to Operate Six Days a Week

In a bid to address recent academic disruptions, the Federal Directorate of Education FDE has announced that schools in Islamabad will shift to a six-day workweek from November 30, 2024, until February 1, 2025. This move will ensure that only Sunday remains a holiday, giving students more time to recover lost learning opportunities.
Addressing Academic Setbacks
The decision follows widespread school closures caused by political protests and public safety concerns, notably those linked to the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf PTI. These events have significantly reduced classroom time, disrupting the academic calendar across the capital.
Temporary Schedule Rollout
According to the notification issued on November 29, 2024, all schools and colleges under the FDE, including those in rural areas, will adopt the revised schedule within their standard operating hours. The policy has been officially approved by the Director General of the FDE.
Balancing Education and Public Challenges
Parents and educators have expressed divided opinions on the move. While many welcome the additional school day to help students catch up, some have voiced frustration over the broader effects of political unrest on education. The six-day week is expected to minimize setbacks and help students achieve their academic targets.
Ensuring Quality Education
The FDE is committed to bridging gaps caused by unforeseen disruptions. By temporarily extending the academic week, authorities hope to restore balance and ensure that students stay on track with their learning objectives.
