HEC Closing PhD Programs

Higher Education Commission has the mandate to improve the quality of higher education in Pakistan and all of the government and private universities in Pakistan are recognized by the HEC. The commission has also started the PhD programs in all of the universities and the research scholars are carrying out their research work in various disciplines. HEC got the achievements in various fields including engineering and now our engineers can get the job all over the world without passing through the tests.
The chairman of the HEC, Dr Mukhtar Ahmed addressed with a seminar, ‘Higher Education in Pakistan: Status, trends and Prospects’, and institute of Policy Studies managed this seminar in Islamabad. The chairman of the commission made the announcement for closing of the 110 PhD program due to their low quality. The main aim to organize this seminar was to discuss the new coming openings, prevalent scenario and the challenges, which higher education sector is facing in Pakistan and the necessary steps and the strategies being taken by HEC to resolve the issues.
The large number of vice chancellors, heads of the department, senior academicians, deans and the research supervisors attended the seminar. The chairman of the commission said that HEC will not compromise on the academic corruption despite of the pressure. He further added that the present focus of the higher education commission is to improve the quality of higher education and the standard of the academic research in Pakistan and ensure that the research work is beneficial for the society and country. He also shared that overall situation has improved in last few years and there was record of 12 thousand publications, which were published last year in 2018. He said that the commission has adopted the no tolerance policy on copy and the original research is established in the country.
