Free Laptop Scheme Adds More Universities for Students

The Pakistani government is taking major steps toward digital education and student welfare, as discussed in a recent session of the National Assembly’s special committee on gender inclusion, led by Nafisa Shah. A key decision was made to equip students from Allama Iqbal Open University AIOU and Virtual University VU with free laptops, ensuring broader access to online learning platforms.
Addressing the committee, Higher Education Commission HEC Chairman Dr. Mukhtar Ahmed highlighted a substantial rise in female university enrollments. Back in 2002, women constituted only 37% of the student body, but today, the percentage has increased to 48%, marking a progressive shift in women’s higher education participation.
Another urgent topic of discussion was campus safety and harassment policies. Dr. Ahmed stressed that universities are now required to implement strict guidelines to safeguard students. Speaking about the Islamia University Bahawalpur case, he clarified that thorough investigations have been conducted, leading to job terminations and legal consequences for the accused individuals.
Moreover, Federal Ministry of Education Secretary Mohiuddin Wani introduced a game-changing development: the implementation of an AI-based paper generation system in Islamabad. This artificial intelligence-driven initiative aims to enhance transparency in examinations and eliminate unfair practices.
With these technological advancements and student protection measures, Pakistan is making bold strides toward a modern, inclusive, and digitally advanced education system.
