Farewell to Notebooks and Viva Voce:

In a groundbreaking decision set to take effect next year, the FBISE will bid farewell to practical notebooks and viva voce in the Secondary School Certificate SSC and Higher Secondary School Certificate HSSC examinations.

Practical-Based Assessment Approach:

Embracing a practical-based assessment approach, the upcoming matric exam in April and HSSC exams in May 2024 will see a shift away from traditional components like practical notebooks and viva voce.

Structured Questions Take the Spotlight:

Under the new policy, students will tackle structured questions instead of the conventional methods. This change is aimed at providing a fresh and effective way of evaluating practical knowledge.

Notification Unveiling Changes:

A recent notification from the FBISE, dated November 13, highlighted the modifications. It stated, "For the transitional period of 2024 examinations, structured questions will replace notebooks and viva voce, redirecting allocated marks accordingly."

Addressing Previous Challenges:

FBISE Chairman Qaiser Alam acknowledged challenges with the existing system, including reports of students obtaining solved practical notebooks. The new policy, requiring students to undergo practical-based assessment exams, aims to address these concerns and foster genuine practical work.

IBCCs Support for the Shift: The Inter-Board Coordination Commission IBCC, a collective organization of national boards, has endorsed the FBISEs policy change. Executive Director Dr. Ghulam Ali Mallah praised the initiative, expressing optimism that other boards would follow suit in enhancing the effectiveness of their practical exams.
