The District Education Authority in Rawalpindi has announced the immediate cancellation of second shift classes in all government schools that have been offering evening sessions for the past four years. This decision, issued through a formal notice by the Chief Executive Officer of the authority, affects nearly 50 institutions in the district. The students can check the fresh updates that Evening Classes Discontinued in Rawalpindi Government Schools.

Six Schools Allowed to Continue Evening Sessions

Only six schools have been exempted from this new directive. These include:

Government Modern Boys High School No. 2, Rawalpindi

Government Public Academy Secondary School, Tench Bhata

Government Boys High School, Chungi No. 22

Afternoon schools

Educational programs

Community schools

These selected institutions will continue to operate their second shift classes as per their existing schedule.

Implementation Begins April 7

The policy has come into effect without delay. From Monday, April 7, all government schools not included in the exemption list must stop evening classes. Students who were enrolled in second shifts are being directed to nearby schools where morning classes are available.

Changes to Teaching Assignments

Temporary teachers hired specifically for the evening sessions have been relieved of their duties. Meanwhile, regular teaching staff will now only be responsible for teaching during the morning shift, in accordance with the updated school schedule.

Criticism from Teachers and Concerned Parents

The decision has drawn criticism from teachers’ associations and parents. Shafiq Bhalowalia, Central Secretary of the Punjab SES Teachers Association, has demanded the cancellation of this move. Parents are also worried—particularly about the impact on girls’ education. Muhammad Niaz, a resident of Rawalpindi, mentioned that many girls previously attended nearby schools in the evening and may now face difficulties if they must travel further to attend morning classes.
