Meeting of Education Leaders Marks the Initiative

The announcement came during a meeting in Islamabad, where Pakistan’s Education Minister Khalid Maqbool Siddiqui and Egypt’s Grand Mufti Nazir Mohamed Ayad discussed the project. Grand Mufti Ayad highlighted the significance of this partnership, emphasizing the role of Arabic language education in understanding Islam’s authentic teachings. He also underscored Al-Azhar University’s dedication to empowering women, pointing out that over 40% of its students are women.

Celebrating Shared Heritage and Advancing Education

Minister Siddiqui spoke about the deep historical and cultural connections between Egypt and Pakistan, both of which are homes to ancient civilizations. He also highlighted the upcoming International Girls Conference, scheduled for January 11-12 in Pakistan. This conference aims to celebrate the progress made by Islamic countries in advancing girls’ education and to explore new strategies for further development.

Women’s Education as a Pillar of Progress

Addressing widespread misconceptions about Islam’s stance on women’s education, Minister Siddiqui reaffirmed that Islam encourages education for both genders equally. He stressed the critical role of women’s education in building a progressive and enlightened society. The Pakistani government remains committed to ensuring equal access to education for women, recognizing it as a cornerstone for national development.

Government Support for Al-Azhar’s Initiative

Education Secretary Mohyuddin Ahmad Wani expressed the Ministry of Education’s full support for the establishment of the Al-Azhar University campus in Pakistan. He also noted that over 2,000 female students from universities and colleges across the country are expected to participate in the International Girls Conference. The new campus is anticipated to strengthen Pakistan’s educational infrastructure while fostering closer ties with Egypt.
