AIOU Launches English Access Scholarship Program for Student

Allama Iqbal Open University AIOU has introduced an innovative scholarship program aimed at empowering students, particularly women, through enhanced education and English language skills. Commitment to Womens Education by the Government
At the launch event, Dr. Mukhtar Ahmed, Chairman of the Higher Education Commission HEC, underscored the government’s dedication to improving educational opportunities for women. He stated that empowering women through education is crucial for societal advancement, noting that 52% of university students in Pakistan are female. The HEC is actively working to increase this percentage by implementing supportive educational programs.
AIOU’s Dedication to Educational Growth
Professor Dr. Nasir Mahmood, Vice Chancellor of AIOU, highlighted that education serves as the key to national development and success. He urged students to fully engage in their academic pursuits, recognizing education as the pathway to a promising future. Dr. Nasir expressed appreciation for the US Embassy and AIOU’s English Department for their collaborative efforts in providing English language education, which opens numerous doors to global academic and career opportunities.
Insights into the Scholarship Program
During the event, Gerald Frank, Regional English Language Officer at the US Embassy, revealed that Pakistan stands out among 80 participating countries, with over 27,000 students having benefitted from this scholarship initiative. Thanks to AIOU’s initiatives, 250 additional students from Mianwali, Bhakkar, and Attock have recently enrolled. The scholarship program aims to not only enhance English language skills but also promote critical thinking, digital literacy, and an appreciation of diverse cultures, equipping students for success in an interconnected world.

Prof. Dr. Abdul Aziz Sahir, Dean of the Faculty of Social Sciences and Humanities at AIOU, reiterated the importance of English as a universal language. He encouraged students to focus on mastering English to improve their international communication skills. Proficiency in English, he noted, would open up various opportunities for higher education and professional growth on a global scale.
Student Engagement and Cultural Expression
During the ceremony, students shared their enthusiasm for the English Access Program, showcasing their cultural heritage through traditional dances representing Attock, Mianwali, and Bhakkar. Dr. Muhammad Kamal Khan, Chairman of AIOU’s English Department, and Dr. Amjad Khan, the program coordinator, emphasized that this scholarship provides students with vital communication skills, critical thinking abilities, and teamwork skills necessary for thriving in a globalized society.
