University of Health Sciences UHS has introduced new academic regulations for medical and dental students, as approved in its 85th Syndicate meeting on Monday. Chaired by Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. Ahsan Waheed Rathore, the meeting sanctioned a minimum 90% attendance requirement and a 70% passing mark for MBBS and BDS students. These changes align with the Pakistan Medical and Dental Council PM&DC guidelines and will take effect from the 2024-25 academic session. The candidates can check the detailed information of UHS Enforces New Attendance and Passing Requirements for Medical and Dental Students.

Stricter Attendance and Examination Rules

Under the new policy, students must ensure 90% attendance in order to be eligible for their annual examinations. Those failing to meet this criterion will not be allowed to sit for their exams. Additionally, the passing marks for professional examinations have been raised to 70%, ensuring higher academic standards.

Applicability to New Students Only

These updated regulations will apply exclusively to students enrolling in MBBS and BDS first-year programs from 2024-25 onwards. Students already admitted to previous sessions will continue following the existing requirements, which currently mandate 85% attendance and a 50% passing mark threshold.

Increase in MBBS Seats for Private Colleges

Following a recent PM&DC directive, the meeting also approved an increase in MBBS seats for two private medical institutions. Sahara Medical College, Narowal, and Sharif Medical College, Lahore, will now accommodate 150 students, an increase from the previous 100-seat limit.

Key Participants and Committee Updates

The meeting was attended by Pro-Vice Chancellor Prof. Nadia Naseem, Dr. Zahid Pervaiz, and Registrar Kiran Fatima, alongside other faculty members. Dr. Zahid Pervaiz was also appointed as a member of the UHS Finance and Planning Committee. Additionally, representatives from the Punjab Specialized Healthcare and Finance Departments participated virtually.
