Registration & Exams Fee 10% Increase by Punjab University

University of the Punjabhas increased the registration and exams fee by 10% for the private students. The University syndicate has announced this recent increase in the registration and exams fee because of the COVID-19 pandemic outbreak in the country and the subsequent economic crunch. Punjab University ratified proposal for the increase in fee during the meeting as the institutes has accorded the approval of the increase in fee as the PU was finding the ways to over their financial crisis, which are faced by the cut being made by the Higher Education Commission in the annual budget for the Punjab University. It was also said that the recent increase in fee was inevitable after the reduction in the annual funding of the HEC as the syndicate viewed this move as this was the only way to pay the salaries to the faculty staff, examiners and other staff members of the Punjab University.
According to the decision, the registration fee for the BA/BSc exams was increased to Rs.4090/- from previous registration fee of Rs.3720/-. The annual exams fee for the BA and BSc classes were increased to Rs.5490/- from Rs.5000/- and to Rs.6315/- from Rs.5750/- separately. The university has also accorded the similar increase in the exams and registration fee for B.Com, M.Com, MA, MSc and LLB classes.
On the other hand, Punjab University did not increase the registration and exams fee of the regular students but instead the University has waived off all fees of the regular students except the tuition fee on the plea that the students are facing the detrimental economic repercussions of the coronavirus pandemic. This strange decision of the Punjab University has left the private students in amazement. So the private students, large number of female students from the underprivileged and remote areas of the province have rejected this price increase and they demanded that the administration of the university roll back the latest decision.
