Pakistan Ranks #1 for Erasmus Mundus Awards in 2025

Pakistan has achieved global recognition once again by securing the highest number of Erasmus Mundus scholarships for 2025, reaching a remarkable milestone in the country’s academic achievements. For this year’s intake, 114 Pakistani students have been selected for the prestigious Erasmus+ Joint Masters scholarships, fully sponsored by the European Union. Among the recipients, 66 are women—accounting for almost 58% of the total Pakistani awardees—highlighting encouraging progress toward gender equality in higher education.
Record Number of Pakistani Awardees Reflect Progress in Global Academic and Gender Representation
The Erasmus Mundus program, known for its strict selection criteria, chose 2,176 scholars from 137 nations worldwide. Pakistan claimed the leading position, surpassing countries like India 96, Bangladesh 95, Mexico 93, Nigeria 75, and Brazil 73, underscoring a strong showing from Global South nations.
In comparison, 189 Pakistani students received the award in 2024, including 100 men, 88 women, and one non-binary individual.
The Erasmus Mundus Joint Masters scholarships provide students the opportunity to pursue their studies across multiple European universities. The program covers all expenses, including tuition, travel, visas, and living costs. Awardees experience diverse academic environments through multi-country coursework, research opportunities, internships, and collaborative thesis supervision.
The European Union Delegation in Islamabad commended the accomplishment, describing it as a “moment of pride” and a testament to Pakistan’s growing presence in international academia.
