Illegal Admission Given in Medical Dental Colleges 2024
A recent revelation has brought to light the unlawful admissions of students in 15 medical and dental colleges across the country. According to officials from the Federal Ministry of Health, over 1200 students are currently enrolled in these institutions.
Despite warnings from the Pakistan Medical and Dental Council PMDC last year, these colleges proceeded to grant admissions unlawfully. The PMDC had explicitly barred these 15 medical colleges from admitting new students due to regulatory concerns.
Officials have disclosed that these colleges had been partially approved by the previous Pakistan Medical Commission PMC in an illegal manner. Consequently, they have collected over PKR 1 billion from students in fees and other expenses.
The implicated colleges are located in major cities including Karachi, Sanghar, Lahore, Islamabad, Rawalpindi, and Peshawar. The president of the PMDC has stated that the Federal Investigation Agency FIA is currently investigating 18 medical and dental colleges for these irregularities, which were partially approved by the previous PMC under questionable circumstances.
This situation raises serious concerns about the integrity of medical education and the regulatory bodies responsible for upholding standards within Pakistans healthcare education sector. The ongoing investigations are expected to shed further light on the extent of these admissions and the future of the students involved.
