iGEM 2018 Pak Students Win Silver Medal

Boston, Pakistani students attended the iGEM (International Genetically Engineered Machine) 2018 and they won the silver medal for their project. This event was conducted at Boston Hynes Convention Center on Monday. The iGEM team belongs to Institute of Integrative Biosciences, CECOS University Peshawar and this team is supported by Directorate of Science and Technology, KPK. The team members are Ayesha Khan, Hasnain Qasim, Muhammad Dawood, Babar Nawaz, Ushma Farooq and Hassan Raza. The team of iGEM was selected this year for the Best Bio Safety Award.
The students prepared the project, ‘reporter fish’ and it is identified the heavy metal contamination in fresh water and it changes the color of its body. The team designed and constructed genetic circuits, which is required for this function and it is tested in bacterial cells. This project has the direct influence on livelihoods of fish farmers and health of fish consumer crosswise the state.
