University of Health Sciences Punjab has recently introduced a new requirement for admission to four and five-year undergraduate degree programs in Allied Health Sciences AHS. Prospective students seeking admission into programs such as BSc Hons. and Doctor of Physical Therapy DPT will now need to take the Medical and Dental College Admission Test MDCAT. The selection process for these programs will be based on a weighted criteria, similar to that used for MBBS and BDS admissions. MDCAT scores will carry a 50 percent weightage, while 40 percent will be assigned to Intermediate examination results, and the remaining 10 percent to Matriculation marks. The students can follow the instructions that UHS Applies MDCAT Requirement for Admission in DPT and Allied Health Science.

Following the announcement of MDCAT results, admissions to these programs will be opened promptly, with classes scheduled to commence on January 15. These decisions were made during the 25th meeting of the Board of Studies in Allied Health Sciences, chaired by Professor Saqib Mahmood, the head of UHS Institute of Allied Health Sciences. The meeting involved the participation of principals and representatives from 34 affiliated institutions.

In addition to the MDCAT requirement, the Board also decided to incorporate English language proficiency courses, including IELTS, into the curricula. This strategic step aims to enhance the global acceptance of Pakistani nurses and paramedics, thereby expanding their job opportunities. Furthermore, the Board approved the gradual transition of all undergraduate AHS programs to the semester system. To make the programs more skill-based, the curricula for the four-year BSc Hons. and five-year undergraduate programs will be revised by various sub-committees established during the meeting. The shift to the semester system will be implemented from the upcoming session.

During the meeting, Professor Ahsan Waheed Rathore, the Vice Chancellor of UHS, addressed the members and emphasized the significance of allied health sciences, which had been overlooked in the past. He commended the Allied Health Professionals Council Act 2022 as a landmark development that would regulate the sector and enhance the quality of practice. The Vice Chancellor further stated that only programs included in the Act would be offered by the university and its affiliated institutions.

The implementation of the MDCAT requirement for DPT and Allied Health Science admissions signifies UHSs commitment to raising academic standards and ensuring that students are well-prepared for their chosen fields. With the incorporation of English language proficiency courses and the transition to the semester system, UHS aims to equip graduates with the necessary skills to excel both locally and internationally in the healthcare industry
