Rs 110 Billion Boost for Education Sector in Punjab

The Punjab government has announced a substantial development budget of Rs. 110 billion for the 2025–26 fiscal year, aimed at revitalizing the province’s public school system. This funding will target critical gaps across 38,000 government schools, with a focus on enhancing infrastructure, improving facilities, and upgrading learning environments. A major component of the plan includes the construction of 50,000 new classrooms to address overcrowding and space shortages. Schools lacking basic furniture will be equipped, and 72 existing institutions will be upgraded into Schools of Eminence—model campuses designed to deliver high-quality education.

Government Plans Comprehensive Overhaul of Public Schools

The initiative also involves completing boundary walls and other essential amenities, ensuring safer and more functional school campuses. A newly introduced model will include school management councils in the approval and oversight process, promoting community engagement and accountability. The government has committed to completing the provision of all essential facilities by December 31, 2025.

Beyond infrastructure, the budget includes financial support for A-class government employees and faculty at the University of Engineering and Technology Kala Shah Kaku UETK. Additionally, scholarships will be granted to high-performing students in public schools to support academic excellence and reduce out rates.
