Rising Heat May Prompt Early School Holidays in Punjab

The Punjab School Education Department is weighing the option of beginning summer vacations ahead of schedule this year due to intensifying heat conditions across the region. The students can get the fresh updates regarding Early Summer Break Under Consideration for Punjab Schools Amid Heatwave Concerns.
According to a report by media, the department has approached the Meteorological Office for a detailed climate assessment to help guide the final decision.
Secretary of School Education, Khalid Nazir Wattoo, remarked that any changes to the academic calendar would be made following the review of the heatwave report by Chief Minister.
Rising Heat Prompts Authorities to Reassess Vacation Schedule
Currently, schools are set to begin their summer holidays from June 1, 2025. However, if the temperature continues to climb, the break may commence approximately a week earlier than planned to safeguard student and staff welfare.
Wattoo stressed that this potential shift in schedule is aimed at protecting the physical well-being of school communities, as prolonged exposure to extreme heat can negatively impact learning and health. He further noted that climate change is increasingly disrupting daily life in Pakistan, echoing global environmental trends.
