QAU in Top 500 World University Rankings 2025

The Times Higher Education THE World University Rankings for 2025 have assessed over 2,000 universities from 115 nations, showing a notable 9.7% rise in the number of institutions ranked this year, the largest increase in five years. Pakistans Standing in Global University Rankings
Pakistan is represented by 47 universities in the 2025 rankings, making it the 14th most-represented country globally, alongside Taiwan. Quaid-i-Azam University remains the country’s top institution, holding its place in the 401-500 band for the second consecutive year.
Movement in Pakistani University Rankings
Eight universities from Pakistan ranked in the 601-800 band, with the University of Malakand improving its position from the 801-1,000 range. Sukkur IBA University also entered the 601-800 category for the first time. However, ten universities saw their rankings , while only seven managed to climb higher.
Global Leaders in Higher Education
On the international front, the University of Oxford continues to dominate, securing the top spot for the ninth year in a row. MIT ranks second, followed by Harvard in third, and Princeton rising to fourth. The rankings are largely led by universities from the United States and the United Kingdom.
Asias Performance in the 2025 Rankings
A total of 853 Asian universities from 35 countries were ranked this year, placing Pakistan as the sixth most-represented country in the region. The 2025 THE World University Rankings, which evaluate institutions across 18 performance indicators, offer a comprehensive and balanced view of global higher education, considering areas such as teaching, research, and international outlook.
