Punjab Hands Over 11000 Govt Schools to Private Management

During a high-level meeting at the School Education Department, Punjab Chief Minister was informed that over 11,000 public schools in the province have now been outsourced to private operators. The move is part of a broader strategy to enhance the quality of education and ensure better learning outcomes for students. Officials also highlighted the success of the Punjab Education Foundation in enrolling 1.1 million children who were previously out of school. This significant achievement is part of ongoing efforts to bring every child into the formal education system across Punjab.
Chief Minister Unveils Bold Steps to Revamp Schooling System
To improve infrastructure, the Chief Minister directed that Rs. 10 billion in development funds be utilized by School Management Councils within 90 days. She further instructed the immediate start of classroom construction in all schools, with a one-year deadline, and called for emergency renovations of 580 dangerously damaged school buildings and another 2,770 that are currently unfit for use.
The CM also stressed the need for educational modernization. A key target is to provide spoken English training to 500,000 students through certified language professionals. In addition, she emphasized expanding the school feeding program to more districts and tehsils suffering from high rates of child malnutrition.
As part of long-term transformation plans, she announced the creation of Nawaz Sharif Schools of Eminence for both boys and girls in every district. She set a five-year goal to upgrade 1,750 schools, with 250 scheduled for improvement in the next fiscal year. The province will also establish 300 Tech-Ed schools across 10 tehsils to promote technical and vocational education.
