Punjab Extends BDS Program to Five Years

Punjab’s Bachelor of Dental Surgery BDS program will now span five years instead of four. This reform was approved during the University of Health Sciences UHS Lahore’s 49th Board of Studies in Dentistry meeting, ensuring alignment with modern healthcare requirements.
Fifth-Year Tuition Fee Abolished
Public and private dental colleges have jointly agreed to eliminate tuition fees for the newly added fifth year, making the program more accessible for students pursuing careers in oral healthcare.
Introduction of Modernized Syllabus
The revamped curriculum, effective from 2024-25, is designed to enhance students practical skills in clinical dentistry and equip them with knowledge to serve communities effectively. The syllabus also incorporates training on life-saving procedures, a critical addition to dental education.
Faculty Development Programs
To facilitate the shift to this updated structure, UHS plans to train faculty members and subject specialists. These programs will ensure consistency in teaching standards across Punjab’s dental colleges while emphasizing a hands-on approach to dentistry.
