Punjab 33,370 Scholarships Awarded for Deserving Students
The Zakat and Ushr Council of Punjab has recently approved a significant number of scholarships to support deserving students. These scholarships will benefit students pursuing intermediate, BS, and postgraduate studies, as well as those enrolled in professional institutions such as medical, engineering, and computer science programs. The decision was made during the 27th meeting of the council, chaired by Secretary Mian Abrar Ahmed. Approval of Scholarships:
During the meeting, the proceedings of the previous session were reviewed, and various issues were discussed, including the distribution of educational scholarships. As a result, scholarships were granted to 15,785 deserving students from 334 educational institutions across Punjab. These scholarships, amounting to over 133.4 million rupees, aim to provide financial assistance to students in need. Additionally, more than 12.2 million rupees were allocated to support 17,585 deserving students studying in religious madaris across 28 districts.
Eligibility Criteria:
The scholarships are available to impoverished and deserving students enrolled in recognized colleges, universities, polytechnic institutes, and other educational and professional institutions within Punjab. The determination of eligibility Istehqaq is made by the Local Zakat Committees and subsequently endorsed by the scholarship committee of the respective educational institute. This committee consists of the Head of the Institution, a Class Teacher, and a nominee from the District Zakat Committee.
Application Process:
Eligible students can apply for the scholarship through the head of their educational institution. The Local Zakat Committee will assess the students eligibility Istehqaq. Once approved, the District Zakat Committee will release funds to the educational institution, which will then disburse the scholarship amount to the deserving student.
Stipend Rates:
The scholarship program offers different rates based on the level of education. Intermediate students receive an annual stipend of 6,000 PKR, while BS/graduate and postgraduate students are granted 12,000 PKR per annum. Engineering, medical, and computer science students studying in specialized colleges receive a higher stipend of 18,000 PKR per annum.
