PU Faculty Members Fail to Return After Foreign Study Leave

Punjab University is embroiled in a major setback after a group of faculty members failed to return from their government-sponsored PhD studies abroad. These scholarships, aimed at fostering academic growth and faculty development, were granted to 56 university teachers under a condition that they would serve the institution for at least five years upon completing their education. However, 12 of these scholars did not honor the agreement. They either completed or partially completed their doctoral programs and subsequently vanished, leaving the university with a financial loss amounting to several hundred million rupees.
12 Faculty Members Terminated Over Breach of Scholarship Contracts
In response, the university is initiating measures to recover the losses. Letters have been dispatched to the Federal Investigation Agency FIA for help in tracing these individuals and recovering the funds. Additionally, the Ministry of Interior and Ministry of Foreign Affairs have been contacted to block the passports of the absconding faculty members.

Syed Mohsin Ali GIS Center – Rs. 14 million
Kiran Ayesha Institute of Administrative Sciences – Rs. 10 million
Rabia Ibad MMG Department – Rs. 9 million
Khawaja Khurram Khurshid IQTM – Rs. 84 million
Shamaila Ishaq Hailey College of Commerce – Rs. 16.1 million
Usman Rahim Center for Coal Technology – Rs. 72 million
Salman Aziz College of Engineering – Rs. 9 million
Muhammad Nawaz GIS – Rs. 72 million
Javeria Iqbal PUCIT – Rs. 6 million
Seemab Ara Administrative Sciences – Rs. 10 million
Samia Mahmood – Rs. 11.6 million
All 12 faculty members have been officially removed from service. Punjab University is now under pressure to tighten its scholarship oversight and implement stricter policies to prevent future breaches of academic obligations.
