The meeting included participation from representatives of Class III and IV employees as well as sanitation workers, all of whom warned that failure to address their concerns would lead to a province-wide protest movement.
Committee members emphasized that the 18th Amendment to the Constitution makes it the responsibility of provincial governments to ensure adequate funding for higher education. They pointed out that while provinces such as Punjab and Sindh have lived up to this obligation, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa has lagged behind, putting its universities at risk.
Public universities in the province are currently experiencing severe financial distress. This has led to delays in salary payments, disruption of academic schedules, paused research projects, and an overall decline in educational standards.
The JAC also called upon the newly appointed vice chancellors across Khyber Pakhtunkhwa to actively advocate for increased funding. They warned that continued silence and inaction could jeopardize the future of the entire public higher education system in the province.
Dr. Zakirullah Jan concluded the meeting by stating that the academic community can no longer afford to remain passive. “The survival of our institutions depends on immediate and meaningful intervention from the provincial authorities,” he declared.
