PEC Grants Pre-Medical Students Access to Engg Programs
Pakistan Engineering Council PEC has now enabled pre-medical students to enroll in undergraduate engineering programs across universities and colleges nationwide. To do so, these students must complete an intensive 8-week mathematics course at their respective institutions. This development has been communicated through an official notification. The students can get the latest updates of PEC Grants Pre-Medical Students Access to Engineering Programs.
PECs New Policy for Pre-Medical Students
In its 49th meeting on June 28, 2024, the PEC Governing Body decided to allow students with HSSC Pre-Medical qualifications to apply for engineering programs. This policy change is in accordance with Article-2ai of the PEC Regulations for Engineering Education in Pakistan. Higher Education Institutions HEIs are required to follow the specified guidelines and Standard Operating Procedures SOPs for admitting these students.
Adjusted Entry Test Criteria
The entry test procedures will be modified to include the pre-medical students qualifications, with appropriate weightages assigned to ensure fair assessment and eligibility for admission.
Intensive Mathematics Bridging Course
Pre-medical students will need to complete an 8-week intensive mathematics program to cover the necessary coursework they missed. This program acts as a provisional admission step, allowing these students to qualify for the main engineering admission process via an entry test. Universities offering these programs are responsible for developing the curriculum and ensuring the quality of instruction, learning, and assessment.
Admission Guidelines and Seat Distribution
Admissions will be based on discipline-specific merit and student preferences. Up to 40% of the total intake for each batch may be allocated to pre-medical students who successfully complete the intensive mathematics program.
Entry Test for Intensive Program Graduates
Universities will administer a separate entry test for students who have completed the intensive mathematics program to determine their merit for admission into engineering programs. The admissions schedule may vary according to regional academic calendars.
Minimum Eligibility Standards
To be considered for admission into engineering programs, students must have secured at least 60% in their HSSC exams, as required by Article 2ai of the PEC Regulations for Engineering Education in Pakistan.
