New Criteria for HEC to Improve Education Quality

The Federal Minister for Planning, Development, and Special Initiatives recently held a meeting with Higher Education Commission officials in Islamabad to discuss ongoing and pending projects, as well as the performance audit framework. The meeting also focused on the new criteria set forth by the government for the improvement of education quality in higher education. The government emphasized the need for quality standards in the sector, highlighting six key parameters and associated KPIs for standardization. These parameters include:
- Quality of research and innovation and its impact,
- University-industry links,
- Technology enablement,
- Corporate governance,
- Community service,
- Graduate quality and employability.
The Federal Minister directed concerned authorities to establish corporate-level innovation labs in various universities and provide facilities in existing labs. HEC was also directed to add courses on entrepreneurship and exports-led growth to degree programs in all universities, in order to enhance student capacity and promote their role in these areas.
