A comprehensive new survey has revealed that mobile phones are now prohibited in almost all schools throughout England, reflecting growing concern over the detrimental impact of smartphones on young people’s mental health and focus. The study, led by Children’s Commissioner Rachel de Souza, marks the first of its scale to examine mobile phone rules in schools. The students can get the fresh information of England’s Schools Enforce Widespread Mobile Phone Bans.

Strict Mobile Policies Adopted in Primary and Secondary Schools

Survey results show that 99.8% of primary schools and 90% of secondary institutions have introduced bans on mobile phone use during school hours. This marks a clear trend among school leaders aiming to reduce distractions and improve student engagement in classrooms.

Education Union Backs Government-Backed Ban

Daniel Kebede, the National Education Union’s NEU general secretary, has strongly endorsed the idea of a statutory ban on phones in schools. He stated that such a policy would make it easier for teachers, heads, and families to manage phone-related challenges in educational settings.

Smartphone Risks to Youth Wellbeing Raise Alarms

Kebede emphasized the harmful consequences of excessive smartphone use among children, especially the risk of exposure to online threats. He urged for greater efforts to protect students’ mental wellbeing by limiting their access to digital devices during school hours.

Call to Ban Social Media for Under-16s

In addition, Kebede called for a complete prohibition of social media platforms like TikTok, Snapchat, and Instagram for those under the age of 16. He likened the influence of these apps to that of the tobacco industry, citing their damaging effects on adolescents’ mental health and development.
