LUMS Fee Increase by 41% in Next Semester

Lahore University of Management Science is the private sector well established university, which is providing the education to students at the graduate and postgraduate levels. LUMS provides the education to students in 12 credit hours and now they have promoted the credit hours to 20 CH on average by making the amendment in their policy of charging the fee from the students. LUMS Fee Increase by 41% in Next Semester.
The management has made the decision of change in policy and they will make the minimal and negligible difference to the final fee. The university said that they have increased only 13% per credit hour because of the inflation, currency devaluation and the costs of the energy. The students will note that the previous 20 credit hours was Rs.340,200 and they were divided in 20 equal hours, which comes to Rs.17,010. When the 13% fee is increased, it becomes Rs.19,221.3 for each semester and the revised fee should be Rs.384,426, when it is multiplied by 20. LUMS has done against its policy by dividing the fee by 12 instead of 20 despite of knowing that most of the students are enrolled in over 16 credit hours or on average. The students have termed this increase in fee as the barbaric fee hike and some of the students said that they could not afford to pay huge amount and this university is no more affordable for them.
LUMS fee for 2020 were determined before the outbreak of coronavirus pandemic and it was consistent with the previous year. The increase is determined for 2020 was 13% and they will monitor it in next fee card. Now this fee is calculated on the basis of per credit hour, which will enhance the semester fee and the total fee meet the requirements of graduation and it does not change as result of shift to per credit card basis. This decision discourages the students to take course overloads and it will impact on the learning of the students negatively.
