ICS Students Eligible for Admission in Engineering Program

In a significant development, the Pakistan Engineering Council PEC has announced that students with an ICS Physics, Mathematics, and Computer Science background are now eligible to seek admission to all engineering programs offered in the country. However, these students will be required to clear Chemistry as a remedial subject/course during their 1st semester after admission. It is essential for the students to know that ICS Students Eligible for Admission to All Engineering Programs in Pakistan.
Remedial Subject Requirement: Chemistry in the 1st Semester
According to PEC regulation No PEC/EAD/46-VCCM/Regulations/2003 dated 30 March 2023, candidates who have completed their Higher Secondary School Certificate HSC/HSSC Pre-Engineering Examination with Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics, securing at least 60% marks in aggregate, can now apply for all engineering programs. Additionally, ICS students Physics, Mathematics, and Computer Studies/Computer Science are allowed admission to engineering programs, provided they clear Chemistry as a remedial subject/course during their 1st semester after admission.
PEC Notification and Amendment
PEC has issued a notification addressing this amendment, stating that the 46th Vice Chancellors Committee VCC in its meeting held on February 2, 2023, approved the inclusion of ICS students for admission to engineering programs. The notification emphasizes the requirement of Chemistry as a remedial subject and highlights the acceptance of a combination of Biology, Physics, and Chemistry Pre-Medical for admission in Bio-Medical or Bio-Engineering programs.
Implementation by Select Universities
Several universities have already implemented this policy and are accepting ICS students for all engineering programs. Some of these universities include:
- National University of Science & Technology NUST
- Ghulam Ishaq Khan Institute of Engineering Sciences and Technology - GIK Institute - GIKI, Topi
- UET Peshawar
- Air University Islamabad
- University of Management & Technology UMT Lahore
This initiative aims to broaden opportunities for ICS students and enable them to pursue engineering education in Pakistan. By offering flexibility in subject combinations, the engineering field becomes more inclusive and diverse, welcoming students with diverse academic backgrounds.
