HEC Considers Opening of Universities after 31 May for Exams

The Federal Government of Pakistan has already announced to extend the date for closing of the schools, colleges and universities till 15 July in the country as the Coronavirus pandemic is spreading in the country quickly. The Higher Education Commission is also going to reopen the universities so that they can take the exams during this prevailing situation. The chairman of HEC approached to the government to implement the decision of reopening of the universities to hold the exams in case of any improvement in the COVID-19 outbreak in the country. If this situation is carried on, HEC can schedule the exams in the universities after 15 July or the universities can conduct the exams online. The matric and inter classes annual exams can assess the students on the basis of their assignment, term papers and the research papers.
HEC is considering all these options but the final decision has not been made yet. On the other side, the HEC chairman said that he has called the virtual meeting of VCs of all universities all over the country to give their views on these options before it is being discussed with the government. The federal government has already announced to cancel the board exams across Pakistan while coronavirus outbreak threat is persisting in the country. The federal minister has already notified the closure of the educational institutes till 15 July.
