Grace Marks Recommended for Karachi 1st Year Students

A fact-finding committee established by the Sindh Assembly has suggested granting grace marks to first-year students who were unsuccessful in the Board of Intermediate Education Karachi BIEK exams. Review of Results from Other Boards
The committee also recommended a reassessment of results from other Sindh education boards. A final decision will be taken by the relevant assembly committee, which could impact students appearing for the annual exams starting on April 15.
Investigation into Low Pass Rate
Headed by NED University Vice-Chancellor Dr. Sarosh Lodhi, the committee examined the alarmingly low pass percentage, which was recorded at less than 30%. The review included exam papers of failing students, even those who had achieved high Matriculation scores.
Identified Issues in Evaluation
The investigation uncovered multiple issues, including spelling mistakes, errors in mark totaling, tabulation mistakes, and data entry inaccuracies, all of which may have contributed to the high failure rate.
Subjects Eligible for Grace Marks
The committee suggested awarding grace marks in Physics, Mathematics, and Chemistry. However, it did not recommend grace marks for Zoology, Botany, Islamic Studies, or Pakistan Studies.
