Pakistan continues to fall behind in education investment, with combined federal and provincial spending reaching only 0.8 percent of the Gross Domestic Product GDP during the first three quarters of fiscal year 2025. Funding Cuts Undermine Educational Progress

Between July and March of FY 2025, expenditure on education saw a steep of 29.4 percent compared to the previous year. The amount declined from Rs 1,251.06 billion to Rs 899.6 billion, reflecting a troubling trend at a time when the education system is already facing numerous challenges, including low enrollment rates, stagnant literacy levels, and deteriorating school infrastructure.

This significant reduction in educational funding has sparked concern among experts and officials, who caution that continued underinvestment could seriously hinder the country’s progress toward critical development milestones such as the Sustainable Development Goals SDGs.
