Canada Ends Fast-Track SDS Visa for Pakistani Students

Canada is upholding its pledge to maintain an accessible and equitable process for international students seeking study permits, including applicants from Pakistan.
In 2018, Canada introduced the Student Direct Stream SDS to fast-track applications for qualified post-secondary students, reducing processing times.
Pakistan, along with India, China, and Nigeria, was included in the SDS program, which aimed to simplify visa processing for students from these countries, easing their transition to higher education in Canada.
However, Canada recently announced the termination of both the SDS and Nigeria Student Express NSE programs, effective immediately. This policy change impacts all participating nations, including Pakistan, as part of Canadas University & Colleges efforts to maintain fairness and integrity within its visa programs.
Students from Pakistan and other affected countries are now directed to use the regular study permit application pathway. The traditional stream continues to accept Guaranteed Investment Certificates GICs as a valid form of financial proof, ensuring that applicants meet the necessary financial criteria for their studies.
While these specific programs have been discontinued, Canada remains dedicated to supporting international students, offering them a welcoming and inclusive academic environment.
